Field Research on Vocational Training

Public civil society cooperation network for refugees and asylum seekers

A study to determine the vocational training situation of asylum seekers residing in Turkey, Syrians being primary among them, and what they need to do in order to find jobs has started, with its first meeting held in Diyarbakir in September 2018. For the first time, a field research project will be carried out in the cities of Diyarbakır, Ankara and Istanbul, after which a database will be created for those who want to employ refugees.

Why do refugees residing in Turkey not work? To find the answer to this question, the MEKSA Foundation (the Vocational Training and Small Industry Support Foundation), which carries out work in the field of employment, started this project in cooperation with the Municipality of Diyarbakır and the beraberce Association.

This project, whose first meeting was held in Diyarbakir in September 2018, will conduct comprehensive field research on topics such as the current employment status of asylum seekers and refugees, their employability, professional qualifications and employment durations. The first part of the study will take 100 days. The research study will be comprised of men and women, ages 16-44, within the labor market who need to find work.
