Remembering Heals

The beraberce Association transformed the attestations and observations of eight young volunteers from Turkey, who gradually experienced different sites of memory at various locations in the world under the Association’s “beraberce Xchange Program: Sites of Memory,” into a book.

The narrations, penned by young volunteers of sites of memory, were published under the title “Remembering Heals: Observations and Experiences from Sites of Memory” by Pencere Publications with the support of DVV International and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

In the book, edited by Ayşe Öktem, the young volunteers narrate tales of the modes of rememberance used by the societies that they visited, along with all of their contradictions, inconsistencies, challenges, silences and expositions.

At the same time, the book contributes to the work being done on remembrance in Turkey by bringing together different methods of facing and coping with the past used in various countries around the world.

The book contains articles written by Gizem Kıygı, Müge Tuzcuoğlu, Umut Erdem, Mehmet Sağçolak, Tuğçe Özdemir, Hanife Kardelen Işık, Cansu Yapıcı and Zelal Pelin Doğan.
